The British establishment is lashing out…
We speak to John Rees from the Stop the War Coalition
Tune in to a conversation about defending democratic rights
Over the last week, we have witnessed a ramping up of draconian and anti-democratic attitudes across the political establishment. This has come alongside a wave of Islamophobia, led by the likes of Lee Anderson.
But what explains all of this, and what should the response be? We spoke to John Rees, a founder of the Stop the War Coalition. He’s been touring radio and TV stations laying out the case for the right to protest, and has been repudiating establishment attempts to depict the marches and demonstrations for Palestine as “Islamist” in character.
Rees is an historian, broadcaster and campaigner. He is co-author of A People's History of London and author of The Leveller Revolution and Timelines: A Political History of the Modern World, among other titles.
