The Scottish Establishment Want to Snuff-Out Anti-War Voices
Help Us Build an Principled Alternative
Scotland’s cross-party political establishment is grimly deferential to Westminster and Washington foreign policy. Proxy-war in Ukraine and heightened tensions with China excite our leaders in Edinburgh, just as the occupation of Afghanistan and the bombing of Libya united them. Our media nods dutifully along.
Conter is the exception. We spoke the truth about Afghanistan when the occupation was being lauded, stood with Palestine during the witch-hunts against those expressing solidarity, and exposed the real nature of Nato when it was being re-cast as a heroic venture. We speak out when it is hard – like calling for peace talks in the wake of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Scotland needs and deserves a principled anti-war, pro-peace platform. We bring anti-war voices from around the world to speak to a Scottish audience – from Eastern Europe to Palestine, from Latin America to India. Just this week we interviewed Branko Marcetic in the US on Washington’s sabre-rattling against China, covered the disaster of the Ukrainian counter-offensive in detail, and explored the relationship between Nato and the British elite. Coming soon, we’ll have Tara McCormick on sovereignty and war, and much more.
The coming years will need these voices. The establishment is determined to drive anti-war arguments out of the public square. To make them louder than ever in the face of growing dangers from conflict, we need your support. The best way you can help us is by subscribing to Conter. By doing so, you will also gain access to a raft of exclusive content and members’ events.

Mhairi Black: Ersatz Socialist
In Mhairi Black, SNP leaders cultivated an ersatz socialist to attract voters. We cannot be rid of these avatars and their faux radicalism until we confront them with something more real, argues David Jamieson.

Starmer’s purge is now attacking even the mildest of dissenters in the Labour party. What does this mean for the country he may soon govern, asks Michael Doyle?
The Failing ‘Counter-Offensive’ Reflects US Interests, Not Ukraine’s
Ukraine is months into a counter-offensive which has won little territory but cost many lives. Chris Bambery argues US and western policy makers are not being honest about the tactics they are pushing.
